Blues star received an “astronomical offer” from rival club

2022-08-26T10:29+10:00

Carlton star Charlie Curnow attracted plenty of interest from opposition clubs before re-signing with the Blues.

According to SEN’s Sam Edmund, Curnow received an “astronomical offer” from a rival club while he was due to come out of contract next year.

This year’s Coleman Medallist turned his back on free agency to sign a bumper six-year contract extension with Carlton.

The deal will keep Curnow at the Blues until at least the end of 2029.

“I heard there were some stupid big offers that came already for Charlie Curnow ahead of his free agency trigger year next year,” Edmund said on SEN Mornings.

“An astronomical offer in particular from a rival club that stretched to seven years at more than $1 million a season over that tenure.

“So the offers were coming thick and fast for him, as they’re for a lot of players at the moment.

“Harry McKay is the next one they need to get done at Carlton.”

Curnow was rewarded with lucrative new deal after kicking a career-high 64 goals in 2022.

McKay, the 2021 Coleman Medallist, is due to become a free agent next season.
