“Really dominant” Snapdancer claims Memsie Stakes with spring on the horizon

2022-08-28T12:18+10:00

Classy mare Snapdancer was victorious in Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace six-year-old entered the race at $7.50 on Sportsbet and held off I’m Thunderstruck who roared home in the final 200 metres.

Maher said post-race that the “sky’s the limit” for the victor as they now seek a place for her in October’s The Everest at Royal Randwick.

“Maybe The Everest is an option, but she seems to be really dominant at 1400m, she has a high cruising speed,” Maher told Racing.com.

“I think she still is developing, so the sky’s the limit.”

While Saturday was a happy one for Snapdancer, the same couldn’t be said for race favourite Alligator Blood ($5) who finished seventh, five lengths behind the winner.

Next Saturday sees The Valley play host to the Ladbrokes Cox Plate Qualifier Day, while the next Group 1 takes place at Flemington on Saturday, September 10 for the Makybe Diva Stakes.
