Crow “over the line” at Magpies as Edmund delivers trade wrap on Dunkley, Taranto and more

2022-08-31T11:40+10:00

SEN’s Sam Edmund has provided a comprehensive trade update on several players whose futures remain up in the air.

Speaking on SEN’s Whateley, Edmund gave the latest on Western Bulldogs midfielder Josh Dunkley, Adelaide’s Billy Frampton, GWS’ Tim Taranto and Sydney’s Lewis Melican while answering queries on the likes of Xavier Duursma, Jordan De Goey and Darcy Tucker.

See Edmund’s trade update on SEN’s Whateley below:

Josh Dunkley (Western Bulldogs)

“So hard to read this.

“I’ve come and gone with this, yesterday my confidence had well and truly cracked.

“The Brisbane offer is close to comparable for Josh Dunkley, it’s not like Brisbane have blown the Dogs off the water.

“But the Port Adelaide offer, however, is a better one financially, that’s the superior offer and that’s the temptation.

“Internally, he’s super invested, I’m told he’s engaged and he’s behaving like a player that will be there for the long-term.

“But we won’t know until the Dogs’ season is finished either way.

“From their (the Western Bulldogs’) mind, they’re as comfortable as you can be when a key player hasn’t re-signed.”

Lewis Melican (Sydney)

“He was raised yesterday as well.

“He is definitely gettable at Sydney, I guess the romance and the great story of Paddy McCartin is the cold, hard reality for Lewis.

“He’s lost his spot in the side and he just wants to play football, so he’s up for grabs as well.”

Billy Frampton (Adelaide) and Bobby Hill (GWS)

“Collingwood are bringing in Dan McStay, but Billy Frampton I’m told is basically over the line at Collingwood.

“He will come in from Adelaide, Bobby Hill as well, barring any late hiccups.

“A Jordan Roughead replacement, if you like, is Billy Frampton.

“Imagine Bobby Hill and Jack Ginnivan in the same forward line as well, Dan McStay and what that might do for Brody Mihocek.

“You can see what Collingwood is trying to do to better balance that list.”

Tim Taranto (GWS)

“I suppose that means something for Tim Taranto.

“Should he leave GWS - an announcement is surely imminent on that - is bound for Richmond.”

Xavier Duursma (Port Adelaide)

“Duursma was definitely unhappy at large portions of this year.

“He had a difficult year, he was in and out of the side, he had an injury, there was a bit of speculation that he perhaps played before he was ready, he was then played out of position and played as the sub.

“He was unhappy, but I’m told that unhappiness ended with him just not playing regular football, not to the point of wanting a trade.

“I’ve had that spelled out to me very clearly, so I’ll take that at face value.”

Jordan De Goey (Collingwood)

“I had that rumour too (that De Goey had already re-signed with the Magpies).

“We went to his management and tried to check it out, we were told that wasn’t the case. Again you have to take that at face value that a deal hasn’t been struck.

“For Collingwood supporters, I hope I’m wrong and I’ve been given a bum steer and he has (re-signed).

“We think he will on a two-year arrangement … there’ll be a few hurdles and triggers put in there as well.”

Darcy Tucker (Fremantle)

“He’s definitely been discussed at rival clubs and raised at rival clubs.

“I know Essendon have been one of those and that’s been reported.

“He is contracted but has some real interest from over this side of the country where we are (in Victoria).

“We’ll see how that one plays out.”
