Voss calls for Broncos to axe Gamble over “disgraceful” Walters comments

2022-09-01T11:00+10:00

SEN’s Andrew Voss believes Brisbane playmaker Tyson Gamble should be dropped for the crucial match against St George after explosive comments he made about Broncos coach Kevin Walters.

Gamble was asked his thoughts on a podcast in early August about Walters’ coaching style and admitted that Broncos captain Adam Reynolds is the go-to leader and that Walters doesn’t understand the modern game.

Voss said Gamble’s comments were “disgraceful” and that he doesn’t have the right to blast his coach who boasts one of the greatest CVs in rugby league.

“You’ve just undermined him,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“It’s reached the light of day and it’s undermined your coach.

“Tyson Gamble, who the hell are you? Who the hell are you (commenting) on a six-time premiership winner for the club?

“I’d take him out. He’s not playing for me.

“Kevvie (Walters) is free to do whatever he likes but Tyson Gamble is not setting foot on the field representing me this week.

“That’s a disgrace. See you later. Good luck.”

Gamble had recently been stuck in the Queensland Cap and has since signed a deal with the Newcastle Knights after requesting a release from his Broncos contract.

SEN’s Greg Alexander took particular offence to Gamble questioning Walters’ knowledge of the game and said that the Broncos coach has proved his coaching credentials.

“The game hasn’t passed him by,” Alexander said.

“It’s not as if Kevin has been living somewhere devoid of any league coverage.

“He’s been a commentator and a long-time assistant coach.

“These comments are coming from a guy who wasn’t playing first grade at the time.

“He might be feeling uncomfortable up in Bronco land.”

Gamble has been named as the starting five-eighth for the Broncos’ must-win game against the Dragons on Saturday.
