First-round Saint a “trade target” as another rival signals interest in Long

2022-09-08T08:07+10:00

St Kilda duo Ben Long and Hunter Clark could be on the move this off-season.

Long, who is out of contract, has been linked to North Melbourne and according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey is now a target of Gold Coast.

The 25-year-old was a regular in St Kilda’s line-up in 2022 and is said to be weighing up his future after being considered gettable across the last couple of trade periods.

“Gold Coast are among the clubs interested in Ben Long,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.

“There’s a couple of potential suitors there, North Melbourne is one club who’s been in the mix but Gold Coast as well.

“He’s uncontracted and he’s been up for grabs at different times during his last contract.

“But as he’s out of contract now he’s weighing up his future.”

While Long’s teammate Clark is under contract, Twomey says rival clubs have the 23-year-old as a trade target given his horror run of injuries and inability to find consistent form at Moorabbin.

“(Clark is) expected to be a trade target for clubs this off-season,” Twomey said.

“He has a year to run on his deal at St Kilda but has had a horrible run of injuries as we know over the past couple of years.

“Clubs see him as a name to watch in this year’s trade period, he’s still only 23, a top 10 pick in 2017.

“I’m a massive fan of his, I think that’s one to keep an eye on for sure.”

Clark was restricted to eight games last year and 13 in 2022 due to jaw and shoulder injuries.

The former number seven draft pick has proven an ability to play at both half-back and through the midfield in his five years at AFL level.
