Dustin Martin makes call to stay at Richmond

2022-09-08T18:26+10:00

Dustin Martin has informed Richmond he will stay at the club for the 2023 season, reports Sportsday’s Sam McClure.

The Brownlow Medallist’s future has been under a cloud this season and has been consistently linked with an interstate move. Martin lost his father earlier this year and has battled form and injury issues in 2022.

But McClure who broke the news just before 6pm AEST, says Martin wants to be a part of Richmond going forward, despite considering a move earlier this year.

“In the last few minutes we can confirm Dustin Martin will be remaining at Punt Road next year, at least for next year,” he said on Sportsday.

“He has told management and Richmond officials that he wishes to be part of the club going forward and will be there Day 1 of pre-season when he is required.

“Dustin has been telling people close to him that he’s been considering a move away from Melbourne for some time and it had some interstate teams monitoring the situation.

“He had to make a call this week or next week, really before the trade period started gearing up.”

Martin is contracted until the end of 2024 at Richmond.
