“They can have him”: Ex-Docker blasts small forward in analysing potential trade requests

2022-09-13T14:21+10:00

Former Fremantle star Paul Hasleby has provided his thoughts on all the Dockers believed to be departing the club during the upcoming trade period.

Fremantle is expected to be one of the busiest clubs during the trade period, with more than half-a-dozen players rumoured to be on the way out.

Hasleby provided his thoughts on Rory Lobb, Griffin Logue and Blake Acres on SEN WA’s The Run Home. He also talked about Darcy Tucker and Liam Henry, two names who have only recently been brought up in trade talks.

In addition to the likely departures, the Dockers are also thought to be in the box seat to land Melbourne prodigy Luke Jackson, who formally requested a trade on Tuesday.

See Hasleby’s thoughts below:

Rory Lobb

“He won’t be there, he’ll be taking up an offer with the Western Bulldogs,” Hasleby began.

“With Jackson coming in, it’s not like for like, I think Jackson could get there in time, but he needs to work on his forward craft.”

Griffin Logue

“It’s a sad one, because he’s a real good person I reckon to have around the football club.

“But money talks and opportunity talks, he’s not going to make it as a forward long-term, I’ve learnt that over the last three weeks.

“If another club can offer him a five-year deal and the opportunity to play every week in the backline, then I think you’ve got to look at that.

“But he will be a loss, not a massive loss, but a loss to the Fremantle Dockers if he does go.”

Blake Acres

“He had a good game (in the semi-final), he’s had a really good year.

“I think those wingman, you can find. Whether they’re inside players that don’t make it… but you can’t overpay blokes.

“I think you’ve got to look at, 'who do we have to keep'… then if the offer is too big for the other ones you’d like to keep, then I think you set your price, and at the moment, their price won’t be enough to make him stay.”

Darcy Tucker

“Hasn’t been preferred in recent times but he’s had some injuries.

“I know when (Justin) Longmuir first got the job he rated this kid, he was playing inside mid. There’s no spot for him there, he could play the wing spot if it was Acres that departed that wing spot, but again, opportunity, if there was a club that wanted him, and we’re hearing North Melbourne could be interested in his services then absolutely.

“For him, he needs to get out of the Fremantle Football Club.”

Liam Henry

“They can have him. If there’s a club out there that wants Liam Henry they can come and get him, because I watched him closely play for Peel Thunder on the weekend and he just doesn't work hard enough.

“Longmuir won’t tolerate that, he wants blokes that play their role, play their position, and just give absolutely everything.

“The last five minutes of that game – and if he was injured, I’m sorry – but what I saw, he turned the ball over twice and there were times you just needed to screw your guts up, tackle, chase, he did none of that.

“He was a high draft pick and academy player to the Fremantle Dockers, and often when you trade them out we look at that value.

“So if there is a club that wants to give up a pick 20, 25, 30 for Liam Henry, I reckon Fremantle should seriously look at that offer because I just don’t think he’s going to have the work rate to make it happen at that football club.”
