Dangerfield “won’t be searching out” Ginnivan after chicken-wing tackle

Patrick Dangerfield hasn’t spoken to Collingwood’s Jack Ginnivan since the youngster avoided punishment for a supposed chicken-wing tackle on the Geelong star.

Speaking to the media earlier last week following the Cats’ Qualifying Final win over the Magpies, Dangerfield said he hoped Ginnivan would “do something different” than pinning his left arm in the tackle if given the opportunity again.

“It’s important when you’re in a vulnerable position as a player, you’ve got a responsibility to treat players with care,” Dangerfield said.

“And I think if he had his time again, I’d like to think he’d do something different.”

As those comments would go on to make headlines, particularly as Dangerfield is the AFLPA President and Ginnivan is constantly in the limelight, the Cats midfielder was asked whether he had spoken to the young Magpie since given his position and standing in the game.

“No,” Dangerfield replied on SEN’s Whateley.

“No, it’s done from my perspective.

“I won’t be searching him out that’s for sure.

“I think if you’re in a position where you literally can’t move because you’ve got someone tackling you from one angle and your arm is twisted in a position it shouldn’t go, I think you can recognise that as a player.”

Dangerfield and Ginnivan could meet again in the 2022 AFL Grand Final if the Cats and Magpies win their Preliminary Finals against the Lions and Swans respectively this weekend.
