Rival clubs “monitoring” former first-round Tiger

2022-09-15T09:44+10:00

Rival clubs are keeping tabs on out-of-contract Richmond midfielder Riley Collier-Dawkins, according to AFL Media’s Riley Beveridge.

Collier-Dawkins, 22, was taken at pick No.20 in the 2018 National Draft but has only mustered 11 AFL games in the yellow and black.

Given that Collier-Dawkins has failed to find his footing at Punt Road and the club is set to bring in GWS pair Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper this trade period, Beveridge’s colleague Cal Twomey says there’s a “watch” on the young Tiger moving clubs.

“We talk about Liam Stocker, but a pick or two after him in that year’s draft was Riley Collier-Dawkins in that 2018 intake,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.

“Riley Beveridge reported in Inside Trading that some clubs are monitoring the Collier-Dawkins situation at Punt Road.

“He’s out of contract, inside midfielder and as you say, he hasn’t been able to break into that team consistently.

“So, I think he’ll be a bit of a watch particularly as you say with Hopper and Taranto coming in.”

With Taranto and Hopper set to arrive, Twomey says Collier-Dawkins may have to “wait and see” what Richmond give up to bring in the pair after preliminary trade talks kicked off between the Giants and Tigers.

“There have been some preliminary talks about what those potential deals can look like, the Taranto and Hopper deals,” Twomey explained.

“Giants football boss Jason McCartney is in Melbourne at the moment meeting some clubs so things will pick up.

“I think clubs are a lot more organised this time in around compared to the last couple of years in terms of how their deals will shake out ahead of the trade period.

“That’s a bit of a wait and see with Collier-Dawkins on what comes in and what that could mean for his spot there.”

After playing nine games in 2021, Collier-Dawkins added just two games to his tally in 2022, averaging 12.5 disposals and 2.5 clearances per game.
