“It’s not happening”: Former Eagle rules West Coast out of Jackson race

2022-09-15T10:55+10:00

Karl Langdon is adamant that Luke Jackson will not be joining West Coast this trade period.

The 20-year-old has put in a trade request to leave Melbourne in order to return to his home state of Western Australia.

Almost all of the talk in recent times has been centred around a move to Fremantle, but the Eagles have also emerged as a potential destination with the club’s list boss Rohan O’Brien insisting there is an “air of confidence” about luring Jackson.

But former Eagle Langdon says there is little chance the 2021 premiership Demon ends up in royal blue and gold.

“West Coast aren’t in the hunt for Jackson, let me tell you that right now,” Langdon said on Sportsday WA.

“He is going to Fremantle and that was sorted out a long, long time ago.

“We told you that right here a long time ago. He is going to Fremantle.

“Forget about Jackson going to West Coast because it’s not happening.”

Another former Eagle, Glen Jakovich, does not believe Jackson is the right player for West Coast given their current plight.

“I think the Eagles, given the position where they’re at, I still think they’re bottoming out with their age demographic,” Jakovich said on Sportsday.

“I personally don’t think they’re in a position to go and get Luke Jackson.

“To get him you’ve got to give up the farm. They’ve already done that with Tim Kelly and it’s come back and didn’t work for them.

“There’s time for Tim Kelly to still be a good player but I can’t see them winning a premiership in the next two or three years and he will be close to 30 by then.”

Jakovich has implored his former club to restock their youth and be “aggressive” this trade period in order to revitalise the current list.

“I think they’ve got to go to the draft and use their number 2 pick,” he added.

“They’ll get good compensation for Willie (Rioli) and there’s other aspects happening locally in the WAFL where they can get some good players.

“They’ve got to be aggressive in the draft and trade period.”
