Lambert to stay on at Richmond in new off-field role

2022-09-19T17:14+10:00

Richmond will keep Kane Lambert on the books for 2023, with the recent retiree to stay on as a development coach at the club.

Lambert announced his premature retirement at the age of 30 in July this year after injuries took their toll, but has worked closely with players off-field throughout the back half of the 2022 season.

Lambert played 135 games in his eight seasons at Richmond to retire a three-time premiership player.

The club says Lambert’s new role will see him work with the younger Richmond players, while also assisting the entire list to “develop and hone” their mental skills.

Lambert said he was glad to be staying at Richmond.

“I am very grateful to be able to enter the next phase of my football career still as a part of the Richmond Football Club,” he said.

“There are some promising young players here at the moment, hungry to learn and improve, and I look forward to continuing to work with them next year.”

Richmond also appointed former Essendon coach Ben Rutten as an assistant late last week as Damien Hardwick’s panel continues to take shape following Adam Kingsley’s departure.
