Star Bulldog requests a trade to Brisbane

2022-09-19T13:27+10:00

Josh Dunkley has requested a trade to Brisbane.

The star midfielder informed the club of his decision today. The Lions have put forward a six-year deal to Dunkley.

The 25-year-old was weighing up offers from both Brisbane and Port Adelaide.

Western Bulldogs list boss Sam Power said the club would now take time to work through the various trade scenarios ahead of the exchange period opening next month.

“Josh (Dunkley) has indicated to the club he is seeking to continue his career in Brisbane,” Power said in a statement.

“Josh has been weighing up this decision for some time and this news is obviously disappointing for the club.

“We believe Josh is at the peak of his powers in a football sense having had a career-best season in 2022, averaging 25 disposals and kicking 18 goals across the campaign.

“The Club was clearly intent on Josh staying with the Bulldogs, having tabled an attractive contract offer for him to continue with us for the long term.

“Given we have only learned the news this morning, we will take some time to work through the Club’s options leading into the trade period."

Dunkley played 23 games in 2022, averaging 25 disposals per game and starring in the Elimination Final loss to Fremantle.

He previously requested a trade to Essendon in 2020, but was ultimately held to his contract.
