St Kilda is set to undertake a review in a bid to turn around the club’s failing fortunes.
The Saints are believed to be planning a “major restructure” of their football department, according to journalist Caroline Wilson.
She says president Andrew Bassat is “sick of mediocrity” and is determined to bring the club into an era of success.
There has already been some change with Simon Lethlean transitioning into the CEO role Matt Finnis has held for the last eight years.
But Wilson insists the Saints are seeking further change.
“The review is being overseen by Andrew Bassat,” Wilson said on Channel 9’s Footy Classified.
“He organised the review that brought in the recently sacked North Melbourne coach David Noble to help him.
“Simon Lethlean is also reviewing the football department he’s just left.
“My understanding is there is going to be a major restructure of the football department.
“Currently David Rath and James Gallagher are sharing the two key footy roles. James Gallagher I think is moving back to South Australia but wants to stay on as list manager, David Rath more the high performance (role), but a senior figure is going to be appointed as head of football over those two men.
“I wish I could tell you who it was but I think it’s going to be a reasonably big name and big story when it is announced.
“The president is sort of sick of mediocrity would be my way of summing it up.”
Under Brett Ratten in 2022, the Saints finished 10th after spending much of the season inside the top eight.
They played finals in 2020, but aside from that it has been a fairly lean run over the last decade.
"My understanding is there's going to be a major restructure of the football department."
