Bombers have “registered an interest” in fringe St Kilda midfielder

St Kilda’s Jack Bytel is on the radar of Essendon.

SEN’s Sam Edmund is reporting that the Bombers have “registered an interest” in the 22-year-old midfielder, who is without a Saints contract for 2023.

Edmund says the Dons have reached out to the 2018 draftee who has played 16 senior games for the club, but did not feature at senior level in 2022.

“Jack Bytel has some interest from Essendon,” Edmund said on SEN’s Whateley.

“He’s weighing up his playing future at the moment. He remains without a contract for next season.

“A difficult 2022 season it must be said. He failed to play a senior game.

“13 of his games came last year when he got a foothold in that side, but injury and form have meant he hasn’t been able to cement a spot in Brett Ratten’s side.

“The Bombers have reached out. They’re looking to attract players while still searching for a senior coach which has been immensely difficult for them.

“I’m told the 22-year-old Jack Bytel is not considered a main priority at Tullamarine but they’ve registered an interest.”

Bytel last played seniors for the Saints in Round 23 of the 2021 season.

Across his AFL career to date he has averaged a tick under 12 disposals, close to four tackles and almost three clearances per game.
