Interest in Melbourne pair, Demons free agent facing “uncertain” future

2022-09-22T10:36+10:00

The Melbourne future of Jayden Hunt is up in the air.

That is according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey who says a Demons stay is “uncertain” for the unrestricted free agent.

Hunt, 27, was a regular in season 2022, playing 20 games (two as an unused sub) including both finals, but is out of contract and could potentially be on the move.

Twomey says West Coast holds some sort of interest in the speedy 114-gamer.

“He played 20 games this year, including the finals series, but his future is uncertain,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.

“He remains without a deal for next year. He’s an unrestricted free agent so he could walk to wherever he got a contract offer.

“West Coast has, I call it a level of interest, but by no means is that a certain thing. His future is a bit unclear at this point.”

Hunt was unlucky to miss Melbourne’s 2021 premiership, injuring his ankle in Round 21 against the Eagles and failing to make it back for the club’s successful finals series.

Twomey named two other Demons who are in the trade mix this year.

Small forward Toby Bedford has some interest while defender Adam Tomlinson’s future is also unclear.

“Clubs are chasing Toby Bedford who the Dees want to keep and have offered a contract to,” Twomey said.

“Another one to keep a little eye on is Adam Tomlinson. Clubs could take a look at him given he has fallen down the pecking order of key defenders at Melbourne.

“He has two years to go on a good deal, so a club would need to take that on as well, money-wise.”

Bedford has been linked to Essendon, North Melbourne and GWS while Tomlinson, contracted until 2024, saw his opportunities dry up in 2022.

It is understood that veterans Jake Melksham and Michael Hibberd, who are both out of contract, will be offered new deals to stay with the Dees.
