Retired Lion “talking to a few clubs” about continuing career in 2023

2022-09-26T12:26+10:00

Former Brisbane midfielder Mitch Robinson still hasn’t given up hope of continuing his AFL career in 2023.

While Robinson retired at the conclusion of the Lions’ season, that came about after not being offered a contract for the 2023 seasons.

At 33 years old and with 247 AFL games under his belt, Robinson still thinks he can impact at the top level and AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich revealed that multiple clubs have shown an interest in the Tasmanian.

Joining AFL Trade Radio Robinson was asked whether he’d consider playing on in 2023.

“I think so,” Robinson replied.

“My mind and my body probably feel as good as it has ever felt.

“I had a few niggles earlier on in the year, but we got all of that settled towards the back end.

“I was playing some really good footy in the seniors and the VFL especially, I think I was averaging low-30 touches and a lot of clearances, I feel like I was impacting at that level.”

Robinson says his manager is talking to “a few clubs” that have made approaches but the midfielder says he won’t jump at any option that doesn’t suit his family situation.

“The manager is doing some work behind the scenes, he’s talking to a few clubs that have been approaching him but at the moment I’m currently doing my thing,” Robinson said.

“Mentally, I would enter discussions with someone if it made sense for me and the family, I’ve got three kids now and we’re potentially going to move back to Melbourne.

“But if someone approached me and said, ‘This is what could happen’, I think I’ve got a good mentality and I could really help a list in a certain way next year.

“If it happens, it happens, but if not, I’ve been doing the things that I’ve been wanting to do in retirement.

“It’s all if it makes sense for me and my family.”

Robinson averaged 12.5 disposals from 15 games in 2022 including two as the medical substitute.
