The future of Collingwood forward Ollie Henry could soon become clear, with an announcement expected within the next 48 hours on his future.
Henry was a first-round draft pick in 2020 and appeared in 15 games this season, but was unable to break into Collingwood's best 22 during it’s deep finals run.
The 20-year-old wasn't overly impressed from a contract offer from the Magpies during the season and has been left considering his future given he's seemingly out of the Pies' best side.
Speaking on SEN Mornings, AFL Media's Josh Gabelich gave an update on the situation.
“Aside from Jordan De Goey and Brodie Gundy, I don’t reckon there’s another player at Collingwood that generates as much interest in terms of his future”, he said.
“It’s fascinating when you think he hasn’t even been a permanent fixture in their 22 just yet. This happens when a player is taken in the first round, like Ollie Henry was two years ago at pick 17, there’s an investment from the members and supporters instantly.
“I’m told we’ll get a fair indication of his future in the next 24 to 48 hours, obviously there’s been a lot of speculation around him for some time.
“There’s been a bit of distance between what he wants and what the club wants in terms of dollars and terms, but I think in the next couple of days we’ll find out a lot about his future.”
Henry has been linked to the reining premiers Geelong, with older brother Jack a stalwart in the Cats backline.
“He’s always going to be linked to Geelong when he’s not playing for Geelong. He grew up literally around the corner from Kardinia Park, played at St Mary’s, went to St Joey’s, obviously his brother is now a premiership player at that club,” Gabelich added.
“We should know a lot more about his future, potentially as soon as tomorrow.”
The Cats have also been linked to Giant Tanner Bruhn and Sun Jack Bowes in the upcoming trade period.
