Former Matildas star Elissia Carnavas has endured a harrowing ordeal when she was the victim of an attempted car jacking live on SEN’s The Global Game.
Carnavas, who was the youngest Matildas debutant in 2001, was discussing the Matildas with SEN’s Simon Hill and Alex Brosque when she suddenly let out a blood curdling scream much to the surprise of the pair.
“I have no idea what’s gone on there,” Hill said on SEN’s The Global Game after hearing the screams.
“I really hope Elissia is okay.
“That’s a very scary moment that’s just happened live on air.
“I heard screaming in the background and that’s quite terrifying.
“That’s probably the scariest moment in my broadcasting career.”
It was later confirmed that assailants with knives attempted to steal Carnavas’ car but she managed to escape the situation without harm. Carnavas is based in Brisbane yet it is unclear where the incident took place.
In a statement posted to twitter, SEN’s The Global Game said thanked everyone for their concern and confirmed that Carnavas was okay.
“That was the most bizarre moment that has ever occurred in my broadcasting career,” Hill added after the Carnavas was safe.
“Someone was trying to hijack her car.
“Hence why you heard the scream.”
To all who heard @elissiacar on-air, she is okay.
