De Goey poised to make "big decision" in coming days as St Kilda confirms their interest

2022-09-29T12:26+10:00

St Kilda list manager James Gallagher expects Jordan De Goey to make a decision on his future in the coming days, confirming the club has had several conversations with the Collingwood free agent.

De Goey’s future has been one of the big talking points ahead of the trade and free agency period, as he weighs up whether to sign a new deal at the Pies or look for another home.

As reported by The Age earlier this week, De Goey recently rejected Collingwood’s latest offer after refusing to sign a deal with several behavioural-related clauses in it, but has previously declared his preference is to stay at the club.

Gallagher said the 26-year-old would be an “outstanding fit” at the Saints, saying their trade period strategy would largely be dictated around whether he opts to move to the club.

“We’ve had a number of conversations with Jordan (De Goey) and his management over a few months,” he said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Feed.

“He has a big decision to make and the time is coming pretty quickly for that decision.

“I anticipate that in the next two or three days he’ll make that call and that will shape a bit of what we’ll do over the next couple of weeks.

“We think he’ll be an outstanding fit our footy club and footy team, he’s an exceptional player and has plenty of footy ahead of him.

“We think he’ll work in really work with our group and our club, but he is a Collingwood player and he’s been there for a long time.

“It’s a big decision for him and I think we’ll all know a bit more in the next couple of days.”

De Goey played 19 games for Collingwood in 2022, averaging almost 21 disposals and three marks.
