Gold Coast's trade update on Rankine, Fiorini, Sharp and more

2022-09-29T15:38+10:00

Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron has provided updates on a host of players ahead of what shapes as a busy trade period for the Suns.

Gold Coast is set to lose star forward Izak Rankine, who has requested a trade to Adelaide, but are also reportedly looking to clear the books and open up a significant amount of salary cap space.

Cameron spoke on Rankine, Brayden Fiorini (who is heavily linked to Collingwood), Jeremy Sharp, Chris Burgess and Josh Corbett.

Earlier on, he also spoke in depth about Jack Bowes, who is set to depart the Suns along with pick 7 to encourage rival clubs to pick up his back-ended deal.

See the updates below.

Izak Rankine

“I won’t go into details about what we’re looking to get back in the trade because that’s a negotiation between us and Adelaide,” he began on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Exchange.

“Justin (Reid, Adelaide list manager) and I have had a conversation around what we’re looking for and we understand their position.

“At the moment those discussions are progressing fairly.

“The number one thing for what we’re looking for is fair recompense for the loss of a player like Izak who we think has got a really good future in the AFL and someone who we’ve put four years of development into both on and off-field.

“So we feel its important we get recompense for that development, not just the draft pick he was taken at.

“Not necessarily (do I expect it to drag on throughout the trade period).”

Brayden Fiorini

“I think that’s a chance (he'll go to Collingwood), but again, that’ll be down to Brayden, he’s contemplating whether a move to Collingwood is the best thing for his career at the moment.

“I think that’s progressing, but he does have a contract with us, we’re happy for Brayden to play with us but we’re also understanding that if he thinks it’s an option for him that he can play more AFL footy and that we receive what we think is fair for that, then we’ll facilitate it.

“I think the thing we want to remember about some of these players… we’re still dealing with people. Brayden and Jack Bowes are in the position where they need to make the decision that’s best for their career, they're not just names on a whiteboard for us.

“They’re people that have been really good at our footy club so we’re giving them time to work through what they need to work through.”

Jeremy Sharp

“For us to move Jeremy we’d have to receive something in return that’s compelling.

“Nothing has moved very far on that at this stage, so I think it’s just a wait and see there.”

Chris Burgess

“Chris has got a contract offer in front of him from us and we know he wants to stay, so we’re just working through that at the moment with his management group.”

Josh Corbett

“Josh, we’ve encouraged him to look at alternative clubs if he actually wants to continue his career and get more games at AFL level, we’ve encouraged him to look.

“But also talked to him about if that doesn’t eventuate, then he’s a player we’re interested in bringing back.”
