“We need him to want to play for the Warriors”: Johns on Dylan Brown

2022-09-29T12:03+10:00

NRL Immortal Andrew Johns believes the Warriors need to entice New Zealand Kiwis star Dylan Brown to join their club.

At just 22 years of age, the Auckland native has achieved several career milestones, making both his Kiwis debut and the NRL Grand Final with Parramatta in 2022.

In his four years with the Eels, Brown has helped the side to 54 victories and was ranked as the second-best five-eighth at the end of the 2022 regular competition with 11 tries, 16 try assists and an average of 119 run metres per game.

This form helped him gain his first selection in Michael Maguire’s Kiwis side earlier this year, combining with Jahrome Hughes in the halves to lead the side to a 26-6 victory over Tonga.

Now heading into his first NRL Grand Final, Johns has implored the Warriors to lure the young star home.

“We’ve got one of the best Kiwis players coming through in Dylan Brown, we need him to want to play for the Warriors,” Johns told SENZ’s Running It Straight.

“Then any talented rugby league or rugby union player in New Zealand from the age of 12, 13, 14 and up – they’ll want to aspire to the Warriors.

“We don’t want to see them in Australia – well I don’t – playing for other clubs.

“We need the Warriors to be up the top of the tree.”

With a halves combination that is still yet to be cemented following the departure of Chanel Harris-Tavita, signing a player of Brown’s calibre could turn the Warriors’ prospects around.

At the end of this year’s regular season, the Warriors ranked 15th in the competition, just four points shy of the wooden spoon-winning Tigers.
