What will Gold Coast receive in return for Jack Bowes salary dump deal?

2022-09-29T13:07+10:00

Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron says they’re open-minded on what they’ll be asking for in a trade for midfielder Jack Bowes.

The Suns has put Bowes and pick seven on the market, as part of a deal designed to clear salary cap room.

Geelong and Essendon are seen to be frontrunners to secure Bowes and the first-round draft pick.

Cameron said the club would look to acquire a draft pick in terms, as they attempt to ensure they’re well placed in the future to attract high-end players to the club.

“We’ll get a fair (pick back in the trade),” he said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Exchange.

“We’re not the only club in this position looking for cap space this year, the AFL has really opened this up as an option and has almost created a third currency.

“We’ve been doing it around the fringes, but now this is a position the AFL is really comfortable with.

“We’ll be guided a fair bit by what is required to get the deal done. One of the reasons we’re doing this deal so we’re in a position moving forward to (attract) free agents.

“What we get back from a draft position point of view, we’ll negotiate that as well go.

“But it has got to be something that helps us into the future.”

Bowes only played five games in 2022, and still has two years left on his current Gold Coast deal.

SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund said earlier this week that Bowes is owed $850,000 next year as part of his heavily back-ended deal.
