Reports: AFL considering pitch for Uber Eats to be rolled out within stadiums

2022-09-30T19:01+10:00

The AFL is considering a pitch from Uber Eats that would see fans at venues receive in-person deliveries of food and drinks from stadium outlets, according to a 9 News report.

It’s understood the technology has been trialled at half-a-dozen stadiums in the US, with fans able to order and then pick up their purchase from the nearest store within the venue.

But the 9 News report states that Uber Eats has “Melbourne in its sights” for fans receiving the food directly at their seats.

If introduced, a specialized menu available to only those in the venue would see fans pick up their order from the nearest stall and then, in time, have it brought to their seat.

It would be the first deal of its kind in Australia.

Uber Eats head of partnership marketing Molly Spychalski told the Herald Sun: “Bringing it to Australia would be so incredibly special.

“We have very advanced conversations actually happening right now (with stadiums in Melbourne).

“The sporting capital of the world, if you will, is the place where we’d really love to bring the technology to first.

“It’s us coming together with a partner … To get you your hot pies, get you you’re cold drinks and get you on your way so you can be there for your team.”

Melbourne was the first city outside the US to roll out Uber Eats.
