Every club has a wishlist but every club also has a budget.
But not many out there know exactly what is on said list or exactly what each club has up their sleeve to spend.
Josh Jenkins has given each of the 18 clubs a round $1 million figure to spend THIS trade period on a player or players they require.
This is a hypothetical look at what a club needs, but ensuring the players in question are somewhat gettable and the deals are not fanciful.
It is what Jenkins thinks is needed and how the clubs in question should spend their $1m.
Next up is one of the competition’s rebuilding sides, the West Coast Eagles.
West Coast’s budget – Offload veterans to generate salary dump
Jenkins thinks West Coast should look to offload some of their highly paid veterans to free up salary space.
“Every club has been given $1 million, but I need to take some back from West Coast, I’m salary dumping,” Jenkins said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Mornings.
“West Coast is at a distinct disadvantage, as are Fremantle, but (Nic) Naitanui, (Jeremy) McGovern, all locals, Elliot Yeo, all very well paid.
“If you went to them and said, ‘Look, we want to move you along, we want to save some money and get younger’.
“They’d say, ‘I’m from Perth, I’m not going anywhere’, they’re at a disadvantage in that state, but as the salary dump situation evolves, the Eagles and Fremantle find themselves in a unique situation.
“Those players who are locals, who have families in the city, are very comfortable and very well paid as well, are not going anywhere.
“They’re going to find it tough, but they’re going to need to find someone.
“Andrew Gaff is from Melbourne, Luke Shuey is from Melbourne, they need to go to someone and start to generate this turnover.
“They’re the second or third oldest club in the league, they’ve got to start it.”
