Bryce Gibbs has given his top five Port Adelaide trades of all-time, with big names such as Paddy Ryder and Charlie Dixon missing the cut.
The versatile former Carlton and Adelaide player has taken a look through all of the trades throughout the club’s AFL history and come up with his top handful.
Heading up the list is Gavin Wanganeen who arrived at Alberton from Essendon prior to the Power’s debut AFL season.
See Gibbs’ list below:
1. Gavin Wanganeen
“He’s at the top,” Gibbs said on SEN SA Breakfast.
“Two-time All-Australian, best and fairest winner in 2003 and a flag in 2004. Currently sits in the Hall of Fame.
“Pick two (from Essendon) I think it was from memory.”
2. Matthew Primus
“He was also a part of the inaugural induction into Port Adelaide, he finished as a two-time All-Australian and the best and fairest in 2002.”
3. Brent Montgomery
“Finished with 126 games, All-Australian in 2002, best and fairest in 2000 and won a flag.
“The trade was Nathan Eagleton and pick 28, so I thought that was some pretty good value for what they got.”
4. Jay Schulz
“Came across from Richmond for pick 71 and Mitch Farmer.
“The value that Port Adelaide got, Schulz played 120-odd games, kicked 275 goals and for the best part of 5-10 years was so important in the way Port played.
“He was a focal point, he was a very good player in that time.”
5. Brad Ebert
“Came across from the West Coast Eagles, obviously huge family ties to Port Adelaide, finished with 184 games, kicked over 100 goals.
“The trade included pick 28 and 49 that Port gave (West Coast) and (the Power) got pick 45 back.
“He was an unbelievable player for Port Adelaide across his time here.”
The Power look to be in the thick of it again this trade period, with West Coast’s Junior Rioli and North Melbourne’s Jason Horne-Francis both having sought trades to continue their careers at Alberton.
