Why there's a “distinct possibility” Ollie Henry trade to Geelong collapses

2022-10-07T13:59+11:00

There remains a “distinct possibility” that Ollie Henry’s mooted move to Geelong doesn’t eventuate, SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund believes.

The 20-year-old is out of contract at Collingwood and has recently requested a trade to Geelong, where his older brother Jack currently plays.

Both the Pies and Geelong are currently locked in talks to finalise the deal before next Wednesday night’s trade deadline, but at this stage haven’t been able to agree on a deal.

With the Cats trading out their pick 18 to GWS for Tanner Bruhn, Geelong’s only other first round pick is expected to be the pick seven which they’ll receive as part of Jack Bowes salary dump deal with Gold Coast.

Edmund says the two sides remain at loggerheads over the deal heading into the second week of the trade period, with there remaining a chance that Henry remains at Collingwood.

“I think we can all agree that Ollie Henry for pick 38 won’t fly,” Edmund said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Afternoons.

“It’ll be interesting to see what the Cats do when pick seven comes in as part of the Jack Bowes deal, they may want to take that (pick) to the draft.

“It is a distinct possibility (that Ollie Henry doesn’t get to Geelong) at the moment, barring a backflip from one of those clubs.”

Henry played 15 games for the Pies this season, kicking 21 goals.
