“I’m trending in the right direction”: Ko on her recent success and future plans

2022-10-11T10:35+11:00

Fresh off her third-place finish in Texas two weeks ago, LPGA tour leader Lydia Ko has spoken on her consistent form in 2022.

With one win and 12 top-10 results in 19 appearances so far in the season, the former world number one is back at the top of her game.

Ko believes it is her focus on consistency that has allowed her to reap the benefits on the course, saying she hopes she can continue this form for the final four events of the season to finish “on a high”.

“It’s been really consistent,” Ko told SENZ Breakfast.

“Obviously coming into any season, I’m just trying to play more consistently, be more in contention and I feel like I’ve done that.

“This might be the most consistently I’ve played … even when I was number one, I think I’ve had more top 10s now, so I feel like I’m trending in the right direction.

“Trying to work on the good things and also work on the things that need a little bit more work and kind of go from there, but I’m hoping to finish my season off on a high.”

Despite her recent success, Ko admits she hasn't been deterred from her plans to retire by the age of 30 to complete her studies in Korea.

“It is (still my plan to retire at 30),” Ko continued.

“Although sometimes I do it and then I’m like, ‘Maybe it should be earlier,’ but every player that I’ve talked to that is now in their mid-30s, they said they too also had a goal of 30 but then when they got (to) that age they said there’s no other job that’s better than this for them.

“(They said) this is what they love to do so why not just keep doing it, so I guess I’ll never know until that moment really comes.”

Ko will next take on the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea, beginning on October 20 at Oak Valley Country Club.
