Cats secure Bowes and prized draft pick as Suns execute salary dump trade

2022-10-11T14:46+11:00

Geelong have pulled off one of the steals of the trade period, securing Gold Coast’s Jack Bowes and pick No. 7 for a future third-round selection.

The long-touted deal was made official on Tuesday afternoon, with the AFL ticking off the salary dump trade.

The Suns were so eager to get Bowes’ deal off the books as he’s reportedly owed $1.6 million across the next two years.

Bowes was a top-10 draft pick in 2016 and played 83 games for the Suns since making his debut in 2017.

The 24-year-old featured just five times at senior level in 2022 after falling out of favour.

It’s believed Bowes picked Geelong as his next destination after the Cats expressed genuine interest in his services throughout the season.

With the Bowes deal ticked off, the Cats will now turn their attention to securing Collingwood’s Ollie Henry who has also requested a trade to the Cattery.
