Report: St Kilda emerges as potential home for Irish speedster

2022-11-08T19:14+11:00

St Kilda has reportedly entered the race for former Essendon defender Conor McKenna.

McKenna played 79 games for the Bombers between 2015 and 2020 before retiring to move back to Ireland.

After two years at home, the dashing halfback wants to return to the AFL and Seven’s Mitch Cleary says the Saints are one of four genuine contenders for his services.

“St Kilda has emerged as a late contender for Irishman Conor McKenna,” Cleary told Seven News.

“The speedster wants to return to the AFL, he has other interest from Brisbane, Port Adelaide and former club Essendon, Geelong though, are now seen as outsiders.

“McKenna is weighing up his call this week, his connection at Moorabbin is through Irish fitness boss Nick Walsh, former Essendon teammate Brendon Goddard, now a Saints development coach.”

McKenna will need to join a list through the rookie draft or the Pre-Season Supplementary Selection Period.
