Sydney FC not interested in war of words with former teammate ahead of Sydney derby

2022-11-11T10:55+11:00

Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne has said his side have ignored comments made by Western Sydney Wanderers striker Milos Ninkovic.

Ninkovic was an integral member of the Sky Blues for seven years where he won three A-League titles and two Johnny Warren medals.

The 37-year-old left at the end of the 2021/22 season to join archrivals Western Sydney Wanderers and added that he was unhappy with the treatment he endured whilst at Sydney FC.

Redmayne, who played with six seasons with Ninkovic, said that neither he nor his teammates were interested in what the Serbian international had to say.

“We don’t put any time or effort into him,” Redmayne said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“It is what it is. He’s made his decision.

“Any publicity is good publicity.

“As a playing group, we have completely moved on and we know what we need to do to win this game.

“It will be a unique spectacle as both active supporter bases are sold out.

“It’s going to be amazing to back in Allianz Stadium which is quite special.”

Ninkovic was especially critical of Sydney FC manager Steve Corica and said during the pre-season that the Wanderers had shown him far more respect than Corica. Ninkovic also accused his former manager of lying about the circumstances surrounding his exit.

Redmayne added that the bitter feud that has ignited has not given Corica any added motivation to defeat the Sky Blues’ fiercest rivals.

“It’s a derby and he (Corica) lives and breathes Sydney FC,” he said.

“It’s a special game and it’s one that we really want to win.

“(Corica) knows what a derby means from a coaching side of things.

“It’s not been lost on Corica.”

Sydney FC will host the Wanderers at Allianz Stadium for the first time on November 12.
