Brisbane Roar star import Charlie Austin has given a vote of no confidence for the Socceroos at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Socceroos have the odds stacked against them, being drawn into a group with reigning champions France and European Championship semi-finalists Denmark.
Although the Socceroos did come agonisingly close to taking a point off the eventual champions in the 2018 tournament, going down 2-1.
Australia’s chances at an unlikely birth in the round of 16 largely hang on getting a result against either of the two European giants, leaving them with a must-win fixture against Tunisia.
Former Premier League striker Austin has confidently proclaimed the Socceroos won’t get a point in the group and pointed to the fact that the team doesn't have the quality to match it with the best.
“No (they’re not very good)… I’ve got a gentleman’s agreement with the (Brisbane Roar) kitman that they won’t get a point at the World Cup, I don’t think they get a point,” Austin laughed on TalkSPORT.
Austin followed on by claiming he would see the sights of Brisbane during the World Cup break whilst trying to stay in shape for the resumption of the season.
The 33-year-old has had an up-and-down start to his career at the Roar, scoring twice in five games with Brisbane sitting just outside the top six.
Australia face France in the first game of its World Cup campaign at 6am on the 23rd of November.
