Report: Cats set to sign Irish recruit for second time in two years

2022-11-12T17:58+11:00

Gaelic star Oisin Mullin is set to re-commit to Geelong as a category B rookie a year after backflipping on the club, per a report in the Irish Examiner.

Mullin first committed to Geelong in 2021 before changing his mind and opting to stay with Gaelic side Mayo in Ireland. It’s now understood the Cats have re-tabled their offer after staying in contact with the 22-year-old, with the long-term interest set to pay dividends.

Multiple clubs had an interest in signing Mullin before Geelong emerged triumphant with his signature last year. He is a two-time young footballer of the year in Ireland.

It comes after Geelong pulled out of the race for ex-Bomber Conor McKenna.

McKenna retired in 2020 but has declared an interest in returning to the AFL for the 2023 season.

He’s met with multiple clubs and it’s believed Brisbane, St Kilda, Port Adelaide and Essendon are all interested, with the Lions the leading favourites.
