Geelong head of football Lloyd poised to join North Melbourne as CEO

2022-11-21T17:30+11:00

Simon Lloyd is rapidly closing in on becoming North Melbourne’s new chief executive.

SEN.com.au understands Lloyd is poised to win the race for the Kangaroos’ CEO position, which has been vacant since the departure of Ben Amarfio in early September.

Lloyd has been Geelong’s head of football since 2018 after serving as the Cats’ director of coaching. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Fremantle.

Lloyd has also worked at Collingwood and Hawthorn as a high-performance manager, psychologist and specialist coach.

But the highly-respected administrator is set to move to Arden Street. North Melbourne had been keen to appoint a CEO with a solid football understanding, as opposed to a commercial background.

The Kangaroos had been assisted in their search by former Melbourne and Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson, while former AFL boss Andrew Demetriou was also consulted.

Lloyd’s appointment is the latest in a number of sweeping changes to North’s off-field personnel, with David Noble and football operations boss Daniel McPherson moved on and replaced by Alastair Clarkson and Todd Viney.

Essendon and Collingwood are continuing their search for a new chief executive.
