“Jezza has been massive”: The advice Cats star has given to likely number one pick

Highly-touted prospect Aaron Cadman is considered the best key forward in this year’s draft and looms as the player most likely to be selected first overall by GWS.

Hailing from the Greater Western Victoria Rebels, Cadman is considered a mobile tall and has been described as a Jeremy Cameron clone.

Having lost Cameron to Geelong at the end of the 2020 season, the Giants look set to revamp their forward line with Cadman, but the interesting connection between the duo doesn’t stop there.

Speaking on SEN Sportsday, Cadman revealed that the Geelong star has become somewhat of a mentor for him and has already given him tips on what to expect at the top level.

“Yeah, Jezza has been massive, he’s been really good,” Cadman said.

“I’ve had a few coffees with him and been speaking about all things footy with him.

“He’s just been giving me tips about basically body positioning – because we’re similar builds, we’re not the strongest blokes out there – so I was just asking him about playing on bigger defenders and all of that sort of stuff.

“Yeah, he gave me some really good tips on that sort of stuff.”

On top of on-field tips, Cadman says Cameron has also given him some advice on how to best adapt to the AFL lifestyle.

“Also, outside of footy, he was saying, ‘You’ve got to make sure you’ve got a balance’,” Cadman said.

“He also gave me an insight into AFL life so yeah, it’s been really good.”

That advice was taken on by Cadman in his draft year as he worked full-time as an electrical apprentice where he could keep himself occupied away from the footy field.

“I worked all year, I was a sparky,” Cadman said.

“I was working with my dad, it’s a family business so that was pretty good.

“Every day when I was working, I was working and then when I was at footy, it was time to play footy.

“So, it was good to get my mind off things and get an escape.”

It appears likely that Cadman’s name will be the first called out when round one of the draft takes place on Monday, November 28.
