The big Melbourne club that has shown the most interest in unique draft prospect

2022-11-25T08:49+11:00

South Australian draft prospect Tom Scully is one of the most unique players in this year’s pool.

Standing at 204cm, the ruck/forward turned heads at SANFL Under-18 level where his ground level and marking skills took centre stage as he kicked 37 goals from the season's first seven games.

While Scully dominated at the underage level, he understands he has a lot of work to do to be a success in the AFL and that starts with increasing his strength in the off-season.

“I guess ground balls are a little bit of a strength,” Scully told SEN SA The Run Home.

“But fortunate enough this year my marks were pretty good, and I managed to put a couple through the big sticks.

“I definitely need to hit the gym this summer, to increase my load, I’m going three to four times a week now.

“I am a little bit thinner, I’m hoping in two to three years I can fill out and add a bit of extra weight.”

While it’s likely Scully will be taken later in the draft, the project player says he’s spoken to 12 of the 18 clubs, with Richmond the team showing the most interest at this stage.

“I’ve spoken to 12,” Scully said.

“I guess out of everyone Richmond (have seemed the most interested), if I had to sort of say.

If Scully does head to Richmond, he says he’ll have no problem in moving interstate despite growing up in South Australia as a Port Adelaide fan.

“I was a massive Port man,” Scully said.

“I loved watching Justin Westhoff and Travis Boak run around, so I was a massive Port man.

“They have (spoken to me), but absolutely (moving interstate wouldn’t be an issue).

“I’m someone that can be independent, and self-sufficient, I think I could handle cooking and cleaning for myself.

“It wouldn’t be an issue.”

Scully and other prospects will hope to have their names read out when this year’s National Draft takes place on November 28 and 29.
