Cats secure Irish recruit on rookie contract for 2023

Geelong has secured Gaelic star Oisin Mullin as a category B rookie for the 2023 season.

Mullin, who signed with Geelong late in 2021 before backflipping and remaining in Ireland, is one of the premier defenders in Gaelic football.

Despite the 22-year-old choosing not to honour his contract last year, the Cats stayed in contact with Mullin and have now been rewarded with his signature once again.

Mullin will become Geelong’s third Irish player, joining Zach Tuohy and Mark O’Connor, and list manager Andrew Mackie said the club is “thrilled” to have him at the club.

“As a Club we appreciate the magnitude of moving overseas and understood Oisin’s reasons for remaining in Ireland and not joining us for this season,” Mackie said in a club statement.

“We are thrilled he will now join the Cats for season 2023, he is a gifted talent, however most importantly a quality person who will be a great addition to our playing squad.

“Oisin has had another impressive season with Mayo and we are looking forward to welcoming him and his partner Jess to the Club and to Geelong.”

Mullin is a two-time young footballer of the year in Ireland and had the interest of several clubs last year before choosing Geelong.
