Brisbane captain bullish spotlight won't affect “special” Ashcroft

2022-11-28T10:05+11:00

Brisbane captain Dayne Zorko could not have any higher praise for father-son prospect Will Ashcroft.

Ashcroft is expected to join the Lions in Monday night’s draft, with bids expected as high as pick one.

The star midfielder trained with Brisbane over the previous pre-season and Zorko has kept a close eye on him across the 2022 season.

He believes Ashcroft has the potential to be a “superstar”.

“It would be like water off a duck’s back to him (the hype). He might read it, but it would not affect him in the slightest,” Zorko told SENQ’s Pat and Heals.

“He’s got a very good head on his shoulders, he is very strong minded and he knows his business is about to start.

“He’s been a fantastic junior and done everything he possibly can in his age group, but he knows what he wants.

“He wants to be the best AFL player ever, I reckon,” Zorko mentioned, tongue in cheek.

“He’s ultra-professional. He has got the makings of some sort of superstar.

“He trained with us last pre-season, I thought he could have played last season for us. If he was old enough he probably would have.

“We’re getting an absolute gem. I can’t speak highly enough of him. Special.”

Brisbane has the draft capital to match any bid for Ashcroft, as well as fellow father-son prospect Jaspa Fletcher.
