Demons raise trade offer for Essendon's top draft pick as Scott confirms “a lot” of offers coming in

2022-11-28T07:17+11:00

New Essendon coach Brad Scott has confirmed that “a lot” of offers have come their way for the fourth pick in Monday night’s draft.

It had previously been reported that Melbourne offered the Bombers two future first-round picks (tied to the Demons and Dockers) for pick four, with Cal Twomey reporting the Dees were even willing to throw in pick 13 this year.

Scott, who was hired following the 2022 season and the sacking of Ben Rutten, said it was unlikely they would trade the valuable asset.

“It would have to be an extraordinary offer for us to give that up,” Scott told AFL Media.

“The honest answer is we don't know yet. It's the night before the draft and we're still discussing it, mainly because there are a lot of clubs really interested in that pick.

“There's been a lot of offers come our way… I can't think of too many clubs that have been able to trade into the top five over a long period of time.

“They're valuable for a reason, that's where a lot of the superstars and great players come from.”

The National Draft takes place tonight, with Essendon set to pick after GWS and North Melbourne’s two selections.

They will likely be pushed back one spot however as bids for Brisbane father-son prospect Will Ashcroft come in.
