Why Pat Cummins is “looking forward” to seeing Justin Langer

2022-11-29T13:36+11:00

Australian Test captain Pat Cummins has brushed off suggestions that there is going to be any friction between his team and their former coach Justin Langer.

Langer unharmoniously departed from his role as the Head Coach of the national side in February of 2022 and has since moved into a commentary role with Channel Seven for the upcoming summer of cricket.

The former coach recently came out on a podcast and vocalised his anger surrounding the reasons for his departure, which led Cricket Australia to ban Langer from interviewing any of the players during the coverage of the cricket throughout the summer.

Speaking to SEN Cummins confidently stated that there are no issues between both parties and that he is “looking forward” to seeing him over the summer.

“There’s always chat at the start of the summer between how different interviews will work between different broadcasters, so yea we will sort it out,” Cummins said on SEN 1170 Afternoons.

“There will be no issues, the players are looking forward to seeing JL (Justin Langer), some of the ex-players we grew up idolising these guys.

“There won’t be any issues from that front.”

Cummins noted that the external noise has not affected him or the team and that they are in a great position.

“I think all the other noise, sometimes it can affect the playing group I think this particular last week or two the playing group has been so good,” Cummins said.

“(The group) is in a such a good place, we know a lot of this noise doesn’t match up with the experiences that we have in the group.

“We feel like we are in a great place, number one in the world, even relationships with ex-players we get along fine with them.

“There’s not much to a lot of it so we just laugh it off and move on.”

Cummins will captain Australia in the first test match against the West Indies starting on Wednesday in Perth.
