Paul Hasleby has labelled young forward Jye Amiss as Fremantle’s most important player heading into the 2023 season.
After hearing the news of St Kilda star Max King missing time due to shoulder surgery, the boys on SEN WA's The Run Home discussed who each club’s most important player was and who they couldn’t afford to lose.
Instead of going the traditional route of a midfielder or ruckman, Hasleby put forward a younger contender.
“I would say the youngster, in his second season, Jye Amiss is the one for Fremantle,” Hasleby said on SEN WA The Run Home.
“Particularly if Matt Taberner keeps on going the way he’s been going with injuries, he (Amiss) is the one.
“In the finals, he was pretty good as the key forward. Kicked two (goals) in the first and even in the second final he played, he still played a key component.
“If they were to lose him and he got injured, it would seriously impact their finals credentials.”
Amiss has only managed the three games thus far in his early career, which has included two finals games against the Bulldogs and Collingwood.
The eighth pick in the 2021 National Draft has kicked four goals and averaged 9.3 disposals in those three games, after signing a three-year contract extension with the club at the start of the season.
