Dockers young gun signs long-term contract extension

2022-12-26T08:16+11:00

Caleb Serong has given Fremantle fans an extra reason to smile over the Christmas period, signing a new four-year deal with the Dockers.

Serong was already contracted for 2023, with the fresh deal tying him to Fremantle until the end of 2027.

The 21-year-old young gun is quickly developing into the player the Dockers would have hoped for when taking him with pick eight in the 2019 National Draft.

A key part of Fremantle’s on-ball unit already, Serong finished third in the club’s 2022 best and fairest.

Despite being drafted out of Victoria, Serong told the club’s website he never saw his future anywhere else.

“I’m just stoked to be a part of the Dockers. I absolutely love where the Club’s heading at the moment and I really want to be a part of it,” he said.

“I wasn’t looking to go anywhere, my partner Chloe and I, we were always really keen to go again and we’re really lucky to extend for another four years, which is great.”

The dynamic midfielder – who is already a part of the club’s leadership group – added attention at the Dockers is now turning to a premiership.

“We spoke going into the year that we had heard enough about our potential, and we really wanted to perform,” Serong said.

“We made finals for the first time in a few years, so that was really exciting. The next step is to go deeper into finals and we want to win the Club’s first premiership.

“There’s no limit on what we can achieve.”

Fremantle list manager David Walls said he was delighted to sign the big-game player.

“It’s just great to have so many of our young guys committing long term,” Walls said.

“Caleb especially, who has so many special qualities. It’s mostly his competitiveness, his want to get better but then just how clean he is and his vision as well.

“He lives for the big games and was our best player in the finals against the Bulldogs and Collingwood.

“Not only does he want to work hard and better himself, he has the hunger to bring the whole Club along with him.”

Serong averaged 26.4 disposals, 5.6 clearances and 3.6 inside 50s throughout 22 games across the season just gone.
