Report: Former Tiger and Sun to train for a place on Collingwood’s list

2023-01-11T12:25+11:00

Former Richmond and Gold Coast defender Oleg Markov is set to train for a place on Collingwood’s list this pre-season, reports AFL.com.au’s Josh Gabelich.

Markov, 26, was delisted by Gold Coast at the end of the 2022 season following 28 games for the club in 2021 and 2022.

Before joining the Suns, the speedster played 23 games for Richmond from 2016 to 2020 where he formed a relationship with Collingwood coach Craig McRae and assistant Justin Leppitsch – who both worked under Damien Hardwick at Punt Road.

Markov’s first day at the AIA Centre will be next Monday, while the rest of the playing group will return to training for the first time in the new year this Thursday.

Markov will hope to win a spot on the club’s rookie list ahead of the pre-season supplemental selection period deadline on February 15.

Collingwood has one remaining spot on their rookie list, with West Adelaide ruckman Oscar Steene and overlooked Calder Cannons draft talent Rye Penny also reportedly set to train with the club this pre-season.
