Unlucky Saint to miss start of season as Lions place defender on inactive list

2023-01-16T16:40+11:00

St Kilda forward Jack Hayes will miss the start of the season after injuring his foot, reports AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich.

Hayes went down at training at Moorabbin on Monday with scans revealing a cracked metatarsal in his left foot.

With the injury typically taking up to 10 weeks to recover from, Hayes looks like he’ll sit out the opening two rounds of the season before returning to training.

The blow comes at a cruel time for Hayes who had only recently returned from a knee reconstruction.

The 26-year-old managed five impressive games in his first season last campaign before going down injured.

Over at Brisbane, the Lions have moved defender Marcus Adams to the Inactive List.

Adams is still recovering from the delayed concussion that he received playing against Carlton in Round 21 of the 2022 season.

Lions GM of football Danny Daly says it’s unlikely that the 29-year-old plays in 2023 as he continues his recovery.

“Unfortunately, Marcus is dealing with a serious injury that will unlikely see him play in 2023,” Daly said via a statement.

“While he is making some progress in his recovery from concussion, he continues to experience symptoms and his health and wellbeing remains the top priority.

“The Club is fully supportive of Marcus and his recovery, and he will remain involved with our footy program.”

The Lions will now have a vacant spot on their list which they can fill in the AFL’s Pre-Season Supplemental Selection period.
