Report: Young Tiger sent for surgery after hamstring injury

2023-01-19T09:26+11:00

Richmond defender Josh Gibcus will miss the start of the 2023 season with a hamstring injury.

Gibcus suffered the injury at training on Monday and AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich is reporting that surgery is required to repair the damaged tendon.

After being carried off the track by two trainers following the incident, Richmond fans will breathe a sigh of relief that their young gun is only set to miss the early rounds of the season.

The athletic intercept defender played 18 games in his debut season after being taken with pick No. 9 in the 2021 National Draft and will hope to improve on his strong start in 2023.

The report also states that superstar forward Tom Lynch is managing a foot injury after undergoing surgery late last year.

While Lynch is yet to return to the main training group, Richmond expect their reigning best and fairest winner to be ready to go come Round 1.

The Tigers face the Blues in their season opener at the MCG on Thursday, March 16.
