Report: Bombers’ top draftee facing months on the sidelines as Gawn heads for scans

2023-01-20T13:57+11:00

Essendon draftee Elijah Tsatas is set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury at training, reports the Herald Sun.

The report states that the Oakleigh Chargers product injured his meniscus and will miss approximately two months as he completes his recovery.

The injury occurred mid-week and comes at a cruel time for the No. 5 draft pick who had impressed teammates throughout the pre-season.

Over at Melbourne, captain Max Gawn will head in for scans after injury his hamstring at training on Friday.

Melbourne football boss Alan Richardson described Gawn’s injury as “hamstring awareness” as Demons fans cross their fingers for positive scan results.

“Max unfortunately had some hamstring awareness towards the end of this morning’s training session,” Richardson said via a statement.

“He will be closely monitored and assessed over the weekend. We’re hopeful we will have some further clarity early next week.”

If Gawn is diagnosed with a minor tear or strain, he’d expect to return well before Melbourne’s Round 1 opener against the Western Bulldogs on March 18.
