Could Sam Kerr finish her career playing AFLW for West Coast?

SEN’s Tim Gossage thinks it’s a genuine possibility ... once her football career ends.

While on the surface it appears a long shot that one of Australia’s greatest ever athletes would change sports so late in their career, Gossage is convinced it’ll happen.

Once the Chelsea superstar eventually steps away from the world game, Gossage has the PFA Players’ Player of the Year swapping the round ball for the oval ball, following in the footsteps of her older brother Daniel who played 220 AFL games for the Eagles.

“She will finish up a very wealthy young lady playing soccer wherever in the world,” Gossage told SENTrack.

“Her last year of sport will be playing for the West Coast Eagles AFLW team. Lock it in.

“Take it to the bank … on the 22nd of January 2023, we declared it here on SENTrack.

“Sam Kerr will play AFLW for West Coast.”

While Kerr - who is one of the highest-paid female footballers in the world - would no doubt have to take a significant salary decrease to take up AFLW, it’s long been rumoured that she could eventually make the switch.

Daniel himself has previously declared in 2018 that he feels his sister would “finish her career” for the Eagles, while Sam has often talked about her love for the game and the club which was formed in her early childhood years.

Even though there’s no doubt West Coast and the AFL would be keen on luring Kerr across, don’t expect that attempt to come anytime soon as she remains in the prime of her football career aged 29.

Kerr’s Chelsea currently sit second in the Women’s Super League with the Matilda having six league and five Champions League goals to her name from 18 appearances this season.
