Kyrgios “couldn’t have asked for a better result” as knee surgery labelled a success

2023-02-01T14:05+11:00

Nick Kyrgios’ manager Daniel Horsfall says the tennis superstar’s knee surgery was a success.

The 27-year-old was forced to miss the Australian Open after suffering a meniscus tear which lead to a cyst growing inside his knee.

Having since had an arthroscopic procedure to clean up his lateral meniscus and remove the cyst last week, Horsfall says the team surrounding the Canberra native are “really pleased” with his progress.

“The surgery went great, to be honest, we couldn’t have asked for a better result,” Horsfall told SEN Breakfast.

“We’re all pretty pleased, the team is ready to go, when he’s ready, we’re ready.

“He’s in a knee brace at the moment, he only has movement up to about 70 degrees.

“We have a post-op appointment today to test where it’s at, but we’ve been talking to the surgeon most days and also the physio.

“They’re really, really pleased, he might be recovering faster than what we were expecting so it’s good news.”

Horsfall says Kyrgios is also in a “fantastic” place mentally as he rests up at home before a big 2023 season.

“He’s fantastic (mentally) at the moment,” Horsfall said.

“He’s at home, playing Pokemon, eating his mum’s food, it doesn’t get much better than that.

“A lot of things players don't get in general is the time to recover. You play all year round.

“It is disappointing that he's had this surgery but it means two things, he's had his knee cleaned up and is going to be back better than ever.

“But also, we have this time to get him fitter and stronger than he was this time last year.

“It's all green lights.”

Respected medical expert Dr Peter Larkins has previously suggested Kyrgios could return in early March.

The Australian could have his eyes set on playing at Indian Wells in California which begins on March 6.
