Report: Collingwood ruckman sent for scans on hamstring

2023-02-01T11:56+11:00

Collingwood ruckman Darcy Cameron has been sent in for scans on a hamstring injury according to the Herald Sun.

According to the report, Cameron was unable to finish Collingwood’s training session on Wednesday morning due to the concern with soreness in his right hamstring inhibiting his movement.

If scans come back confirming a standard hamstring strain, Cameron could be sidelined for up to a month.

With Collingwood’s Round 1 clash against Geelong still more than six weeks away, the report says the club are confident the ruckman will play in the season opener.

While he’ll likely be fit for that game, a standard hamstring strain could rule him out of both of Collingwood’s practice games which take place against Carlton (match simulation) on February 24 and Hawthorn on March 2.

With Brodie Grundy now at Melbourne, Collingwood may have to rely on Mason Cox or Aiden Begg to shoulder ruck duties if Cameron misses time - proving how structurally important the big man now is for Craig McRae.

West Adelaide ruckman Oscar Steene is also training at the club in hopes of claiming the Magpies’ final rookie spot through the pre-season suplemental selection period.

Collingwood’s Round 1 clash against Geelong is set for March 17 at the MCG.
