How big an impact will Geoff Walsh’s departure have on St Kilda?
Walsh stepped down as St Kilda's head of football four months after he was appointed to the role on Monday, citing personal reasons for his resignation.
In what is a massive blow for the Saints considering where the club is at both on and off-field, the Saints were quick to find an interim replacement in Dave Mission, who was recently announced as their new ‘Performance Manager’.
Given all that Walsh has achieved in his time in the AFL, it’s impossible to say that his departure isn’t a blow for the Saints especially after it was announced that Ross Lyon is working closely alongside the veteran football adviser.
David King agrees, saying he expects Walsh’s departure to have a “big impact” on the club.
“I think it will have a big impact on the Saints, I just know Geoff, I know what he brings and the professionalism that he provides and the decision-making clarity that he has,” King told SEN Breakfast.
“Being in the industry for so long and in this exact role, St Kilda need a lot of correction and obviously Ross Lyon is there to do that, that’s the big investment with Ross.
“I still think those three or four pillars off field that are so critical to getting everything running smoothly.
“I understand Dave Mission has gone in as the interim to stem the tide but he’s a loss.”
St Kilda opens up its season against Fremantle in just 43 days’ time at Marvel Stadium.
The club is yet to announce Walsh’s full-time replacement.
