Sydney FC "impressive" in crazy win whilst off-field drama wreaks havoc on Macarthur

2023-02-06T09:50+11:00

SEN’s Adam Peacock has praised Sydney FC’s “impressive” win over the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday but insisted that the Sky Blues’ problems have not gone away.

Sydney FC was reduced to 10 men after 19 minutes when Rhyan Grant was sent off and found themselves 2-1 down before Joe Lolley and Adam Le Fondre scored two goals within 15 minutes to record a famous win at Allianz Stadium.

Peacock said the home side showed flashes of brilliance but still has some serious defensive issues that need to be addressed.

“It was impressive,” Peacock said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“I wouldn’t say that (Sydney) are back because they were making a lot of defensive errors.

“Their experience is what got them over the line again.

“It’s not a false dawn but I’m not going to say they will finish in the top two because they’ve got a couple of big games coming up.

“They definitely need to make finals and at least top four.

“They’ve got a bit of shuffling to do in terms of personnel.

“Whether or not they trust (coach) Steve Corica to do that totally depends.”

Round 15 in the A-League saw the Western Sydney Wanderers move to second place on the ladder with a 1-0 win over Western United and Macarthur FC were thrashed 6-1 by Melbourne City.

Peacock is mystified that more information hasn’t surfaced over the departure of former Macarthur coach Dwight Yorke after he called his old side ‘a pub team.’

“We still haven’t got to the bottom of why Dwight Yorke left.

“It was all very sudden because it wasn’t as if the results were poor.

“They won the Australia Cup competition in October.

“I don’t know what happened behind the scenes.

“It’s all a bit of a shame because it’s obviously translated into a dressing room not sure of itself after getting walloped.”

Macarthur will look to lick their wounds against Wellington Phoenix on February 12 whilst Sydney FC will play the Wanderers in another fiery instalment of the Sydney derby.
